Board Member, Maria Zinszer Porter acted as ambassador for the Georgetown Chamber at the welcome party for the Senior League World Series Softball teams. Georgetown Chamber adopted the team from the Phillipines (where Maria's mother is from) and Maria presented each team member with a welcome back from the Georgetown Chamber.
Maria commented about the event:
The event last night was wonderful, a very relaxed enjoyable event with music and food. When our team (Asia Pacific) first arrived I introduced myself and met their coach. The Filipino team truly appreciated the gift bags and certificates. When I passed out the bags they had huge smiles, gave me hugs, and stated "thank you so much". The team captain Antoinette Ondrik, gave me a hug and kiss on the cheek and asked me to extend the thank you to the town of Georgetown and the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. The coach asked me to call each team player's name to hand them the certificate making them "honorary" Georgetown citizens, she said it would be a special moment for the girls and I do agree. I was able to meet each one of the 18 girls as they accepted there certificates
