This week, Bayhealth celebrates its Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists during CRNA Week at Kent General Hospital and Milford Memorial Hospital. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are anesthesia specialists who administer more than 32 million anesthetics to surgical patients in the United States each year.
"During surgery, the patient's life often rests in the hands of this anesthesia professional. We honor all of our CRNAs who play a lifesaving role for so many patients," said Robert House, CRNA, who serves as Bayhealth's Clinical Coordinator for Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
According to House, CRNAs must fully utilize every aspect of their anesthesia education, nursing skills, and scientific knowledge to keep patients safe. CRNAs vigilantly monitor the patient's vital signs, regulate the anesthetic as necessary, assess the patient's status, and communicate clearly with other members of the surgical team, and respond quickly and appropriately in an emergency.
