SBA District Director to Relocate, Armstrong to assume duties in Virginia

Jayne Armstrong, director of the Small Business Administration's (SBA) Delaware district office, is transferring to serve in the same capacity in SBA's Virginia district office. The transfer will be effective in mid-March.

"I was honored to work for Delaware's small business owners for the past 12 years," said Armstrong, "I am especially proud of the dedicated, hard-working SBA team we have built here. I know they will continue to make significant contributions to our small business community."

Armstrong was the first SBA district director in Delaware, assuming the post in 1999.

Protecting Against Concussions

Your child loves sports. But how do you ensure that she stays safe from potential concussions and head injuries?

To help stem a recent rise in concussions and ensure the safety of high school athletes, Bayhealth Neurosurgeon James Mills, MD, is providing "baseline testing" for student athletes at Polytech and Caesar Rodney High Schools. The "baseline" is a half hour computer test which measures the memory and cognition of the student athlete. The baseline test score will be a valuable frame of reference in comparing against the same student athlete's test score after he or she suffers a potential concussion.

Beebe Medical Center Names Jeff Peirce Physician Marketing Representative

Beebe Medical Center, a not-for-profit, community-owned hospital, has named Jeffrey Peirce as its new Physician Marketing Representative.

Mr. Peirce acts as a liaison between Beebe Medical Center and area physicians, healthcare clinicians and their office staff. He keeps physicians abreast of Beebe Medical Center's medical technology and support services available to aid them in providing the highest quality care to their patients.

Mr. Peirce reports to Kelly Griffin, Director of Marketing and Communications for Beebe Medical Center.

Joanna Robertson, RN, a nurse on the third floor medical-surgical unit at Beebe Medical Center, has been honored with the "You make a Difference" Award for January.

Joanna has been recognized for her tireless work toward improving patient care by leading an effort to institute the evidence-based practice Bedside Reporting. The practice is a patient-centered initiative that allows the patient to participate in the nurses' routine shift-change reporting process. Research is showing that the practice improves communication between nurses and caregivers, as well as between the patients and their nurses and physicians.

The agents and staff of Prudential Gallo, REALTORS® gathered for their annual breakfast meeting on Jan. 25 at the Virden Center of the University of Delaware, Lewes. With the opening of its Bethany Beach office, the company now numbers nearly 100 associates.

WSFS REPORTS 4th QUARTER AND FULL YEAR 2011 NET INCOME; 2011 EPS INCREASES 56% OVER 2010

WSFS Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: WSFS), the parent company of WSFS Bank, reported net income of $22.7 million, or $2.28 per diluted common share for the full year of 2011, a 56% improvement compared to net income of $14.1 million, or $1.46 per diluted common share for 2010.
For the fourth quarter of 2011, WSFS reported net income of $6.2 million, or $0.63 per diluted common share, compared to net income of $2.1 million, or $0.16 per diluted common share for the fourth quarter of 2010 and net income of $6.8 million, or $0.70 per diluted common share for the third quarter of 2011.
