Bayhealth Medical Center is exceeding the national standards for the treatment of heart failure patients, according to the American Heart Association.
Kent General Hospital and Milford Memorial Hospital have both received the AHA's "Get With The Guidelines - Heart Failure Gold Performance Achievement Award." The Gold Performance Achievement Award recognizes that both hospitals exceeded an 85 percent compliance with core standards for treating heart failure patients during the past 24 months. The American Boy Choir from the school of the same name came from Princeton New Jersey to perform for the residents and surrounding community of Brandywine Assisted Living at Seaside Pointe, Rehoboth Beach. Boys are between the ages of 9 and 12 and must audition to become students of the boarding school which places emphasis on the academic, social and moral development of boys during the crucial middle school years. The non-profit Rehoboth Theatre of the Arts wins 3 top awards at the Eastern States Regional One Act Play competition held on May 9, 2010 at Chapel Street Playhouse in Newark, DE.
The competition was fierce this year with 15 play entries from the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware. However, the Rehoboth Theatre of the Arts was able to take top prize in three categories, one being First Place for the best Original Work for its entry Midnight Train to George. The Georgetown Public Library will be closing to the public at the end of our business Saturday May 29th to begin packing for the move to our new location at 123 West Pine Street. The Bookmobile will be available Thursday and Fridays starting on June 3 from 10 am - 4 pm. There will be no computer access on the bookmobile. Bayhealth Medical Center has announced its 2009 Employees of the Year and 2009 Leader of the Year.
Plant Operations Director Mike Metzing has been named Leader of the Year, while Clinical Educator Kathy King is the Northern Division Employee of the Year, and Post Anesthesia Care Nurse Nancy Leighty is the Southern Division Employee of the Year. They each receive an engraved crystal award, a $500 savings bond, eight hours of paid time off, and dinner for four at a local restaurant. Kent and Sussex County will soon have a more direct voice in the leadership of a prestigious medical professional organization.
Bayhealth Cardiologist John Shuck, MD, has been elected Delaware's Governor-Elect to the American College of Cardiology. When he assumes office in March of 2011, Dr. Shuck will be the first ACC Governor from downstate Delaware in recent memory.
"As Delaware Governor, I will be a voice for the entire First-State but will certainly be a strong champion for important cardiology issues impacting downstate residents," said Dr. Shuck.
