Wings & Wheels 2019 planning is underway!

This year’s event is set to take place the weekend of October 4th & 5th.  Things kick off Friday with Pathways to Aviation Day where 125 high school students will spend the day at the Delaware Coastal Airport learning from aviation experts.

We are excited to announce that Col Charles McGee, (USAF/Ret) will be joining us for Wings & Wheels weekend as our honored guest. Col McGee is a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen (332nd Fighter Group), was a fighter pilot during WWII, Korea and Vietnam, and flew more combat missions than any Air Force Fighter Pilot at 409. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Legion of Merit, flew a P51 Mustang escorting bombers over Germany, Austria, and the Balkans and later became an instructor for the B25 Mitchell Bomber (with more than 6300 flying hours). Being at Wings & Wheels will put him back with the two aircraft he is most familiar with – the B-25 Mitchell Bomber, Panchito (owner Larry Kelley & The Delaware Aviation Museum), and the P-51 Mustang, Rosalie (owner, Ezra Rickards). Col McGee, will be our keynote speaker at the Pathways to Aviation Program on Friday Morning (HS Students), our Friday night dinner show and on the runway at the Panchito booth on Saturday.

Friday evening, we celebrate all things peace, love, and happiness at our annual fundraising dinner with Kathie Martin’s Tribute to the Woodstock Generation. Benefiting the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, this year’s event will be held on the grounds of the Delaware Coastal Airport. Ticket price is $50 per person and includes dinner from Lighthouse Catering.

Saturday’s free event runs from 10 am – 4 pm beginning with an Opening Ceremony including the National Anthem and Presentation of Colors by the Sussex Central ROTC Color Guard.  Events at the airport throughout the day include a vintage aircraft fly-in, car show, featured speakers, live entertainment, and craft & food vendors. 2019 will also see the return of the fan-favorite Flour Bombing Competition at 2:00 pm as well as the Official Naval Academy Parachute Team.

We are also proud to welcome the Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware as our partners on the 2019 car show. With awards in numerous categories, goodie bags for all pre-registered vehicles, and dash plaques for the first 200 registrants, this year’s show is looking to be our biggest and best yet. It WILL sell out, so register your vehicles soon!

For vendor or car show registration information, or to purchase tickets for our Friday night event, visit the Wings & Wheels website at http://www.wings-wheels.com/ or call the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce (302) 856-1544.

Georgetown has a long history spanning back to 1791 when the county seat moved there from Lewes, which was criticized for being too far from western Delaware. Originally, Georgetown was laid out in a large square, but that was quickly changed to the circle we all associate with Georgetown with the historic Georgetown Circle at the center.
